Harvard Orthopaedic Ski Weekend

Residents, fellows, and attendings alike took to the slopes of Waterville Valley on March 8-10, 2013, to continue the time-honored tradition of the HCORP Ski Weekend in New Hampshire. Whether beginning skiiers or advanced snowboarders, we had a fantastic turnout and gorgeous weather that brought together residents from each class in addition to faculty members, fellows, and family members for a grand total of over 60 participants. Saturday morning started out with a continental breakfast followed by a few hours of recreational skiing and snowboarding prior to the real competition of the day: the annual resident vs. attending NASTAR race. Although the residents put up a good fight, the attendings once again demonstrated their athletic prowess on the slopes and took home the 2013 title.

Saturday evening’s dinner at a local lodge featured fantastic food and even better company. After a buffet dinner, the residents once again got primed for competition with the HCORP Jeopardy event, in which their Orthopaedic knowledge was put to the test. In an interesting twist, many questions and images were focused specifically on injuries commonly incurred by skiers and snowboarders on the slopes. In the end, however, team Baratz/Logan/Macaulay/Ehrlichman/Beamer were victorious. No Jeopardy game would be complete, of course, without Dr. Ready’s famous Lauge-Hansen dance, which was enjoyed by all (and even captured on film by some!). Congrats to all.
