5th Annual Harvard Orthopaedic Golf Outing
May 9th, 2003, Sandy Burr Country Club, Wayland, MA

The weather cooperated again this year to make the 5th annual Harvard Orthopaedic Golf Outing a great success. We had 95 participants, including many resident and attending physicians from all of the Harvard hospitals, as well as a few Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program alumni.

The foursomes competed in a scramble format. The winning team of Harry Rubash, Karen Bernstein, Kevin Raskin and Dom Dinardo blew away the rest of the field with a score of 15 under par! In second place, with a very impressive 11 under par, was the team of Tom Gill, Bill Cormack and Brian Forsythe.

Jim O'Holleran and Raj Ahluwalia both won longest drive awards, Jim for the second year in a row. Tom Gill had a crushing drive to win the award for the attendings. Closest to the pin awards for residents and staff went to Nick Avallone and Wolfgang Fitz, respectively.

The "Barry Simmons Award," given annually for the biggest faux pas on tournament day, went to MGH arthroplasty fellows Peter Sultan and Peter Chiang. They were witnessed pushing their golf cart out of a muddy ditch.

Next year's tournament is tentatively scheduled for Friday afternoon May 28th. The resident organizers for next year's event will be the entertaining foursome of Joe Czarnecki, Sean Rassman, Renn Crichlow and Bob O'Toole.
