Harvard Orthopaedic Journal Club (HOJC)

Originally founded by Drs. Wimberley, Heckman and Herndon, the Harvard Orthopaedic Journal Club (HOJC) is now in its fifth year of existence. The HOJC has been fortunate to enjoy the continued guidance and mentorship of Dr. Heckman, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.

The journal club meets every month, alternating between meeting sites at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. For each monthly meeting, five to six articles are selected from the latest Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery by Dr. Heckman and the resident leader. Each article is reviewed in detail by a panel of three residents. One resident summarizes the study design, methods and results, and two additional residents critique the quality of the study. Additionally, a faculty member with expertise in the subject matter of each article is invited to provide critical insight.

Each month lively discussions are held over a range of topics. The discussion is fostered by active attendance from numerous Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency staff. HOJC continues to be an enormous educational opportunity for residents and fellows. Participation by area alumni and faculty is welcome and encouraged. Please contact Dr. Susan Stewart (sstewart1@partners.org) for a schedule of meeting times and locations.
