The 9th annual Harvard Orthopedics Golf Tournament
took place on Friday May 25th, 2007 at the Sandy Burr Golf
Club in Wayland, Massachusetts. It was once again a huge success
with over 90 golfers enjoying the fantastic weather and
great camaraderie. The golf course was in excellent shape and
the golfing was surprisingly pretty good as well. This year, each
golfer received an embroidered windshirt and a sleeve of Titleist
golf balls. The event was kicked off with a barbecue lunch on the
patio and it concluded with an Italian dinner in the clubhouse.
The drink cart girl was kept plenty busy throughout the day as
temperatures soared to 90 degrees.
The winning score (12-under par) was posted by Team
Spondylolisthesis (Dr. Fred Mansfield, Scott Palmer, Kara
Gropler, Ed Fahey). They knocked off the defending champion
Team S.L.A.P. (Dr. J.P. Warner, Dr. Rob Fullick, Ben Warner, and
Clay Fullick) who took second place with a score of 11-under
par. Team Osteolysis (Dr. Harry Rubash, Dr. Kevin Raskin, Dr.
Will Curry, Karen Bernstein) and Team PCL (Dr. Tom Gill, Dr.
Nick Dutchesen, Don Delnegro, Scott Waugh) tied for 3rd place
with a score of 10-under par.
The prestigious Dr. Simmons award was split between Dr.
Kevin Riche who captured a water snake while looking for one
of his errant shots and Dr. Abigail Hamilton who literally took
one for the team as she was struck by an errant tee shot of a
fellow resident. Closest to the pin prizes were awarded to Dr.
Arnold Alqueza, David Diller, Dr. Will Curry, and Kara Gropler.
This year’s highly successful event was again organized by
Dr. Steve Mattheos, with assistance from Carolynn Dirienzo and
Diane Sheehan. The funding of this wonderful event was made
entirely possible by the generous support of Harvard Orthopaedic
faculty and alumni. The residents would like to thank the following
