Letter from the Editors-in-Chief

Dr. Sang D. Kim   Dr. Peter s. Vezeridis, MD

Volume 14, 2012

It is a true privilege to present the fourteenth annual edition of the Orthopaedic Journal at Harvard Medical School. As in previous years, this year’s edition highlights current research and documents educational and social activities throughout the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program and the Harvard affiliated orthopaedic departments.

We are proud to introduce several exciting improvements in this year’s edition. Our new Harvard alumni map enables readers to search for graduates in specific geographic locations and will greatly facilitate alumni networking. We are also introducing a Research Review section to this year’s edition, providing a forum for investigators to summarize their scholarly activities over the previous academic year. Additionally, we are highlighting the publications by orthopaedic faculty at each institution. Finally, Nicole Wolf has provided her professional expertise in publishing this year’s journal, including design of our new website.

It is also our pleasure to honor Dr. Mark Vrahas with this year’s Journal dedication. Dr. Vrahas is a wonderful role model who is deeply committed to patient care, to resident and fellow education, and to excellence in basic science and clinical research. Thank you and congratulations, Dr. Vrahas.

It has been a privilege to work with this year’s fantastic editorial board: Terrill Julien, M.D., Bryce Wolf, M.D., Eric Fu, M.D., Shawn Anthony, M.D., Carl Harper, M.D., and Beverly Ting, M.D. Their remarkable diligence and commitment has culminated in a high quality publication with exciting new features. Additionally, this publication would not be possible without the ongoing efforts of Diane Sheehan, Veronica Price and Jennifer Duane. We wish Diane continued success and express our deep gratitude for her outstanding contributions to our program. We extend a warm welcome to Jennifer Duane, our new residency Program Manager.

Finally, we acknowledge the families of our residents and staff for their patience and understanding of the demands of our chosen profession. On a personal note, we would like to thank and recognize our families for their unwavering love and support.

On behalf of all of the editors of the Orthopaedic Journal at Harvard Medical School, thank you for your contributions and continued support. We hope you enjoy the 14th edition of the Journal as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

Sincerely,

Peter S. Vezeridis, MD
